Glowforge wants you to get up and cutting immediately with your laser machine. I was excited for sure when I originally ordered my machine and saw it included a $75 Value of Premium Proofgrade Materials.

What are Proofgrade Materials?

The brand new Proofgrade materials line was designed especially for your Glowforge to help you get perfect prints every time. They come with a protective masking tape-like layer that dramatically improves the print quality and allows you to draw directly on the material for use with Trace. A word about the protective tape – it was relatively easy to peel it off from the wood – the acrylic was another story. I had to use an Exacto knife to peel it from the Acrylic, very slowly and carefully as to not scratch it or cut myself in the process. I will try to find an easier way of removing it.

Each piece of Proofgrade material has been labeled with a QR code that your Glowforge can read, which tells it exactly which settings to use to produce pristine cuts and engraves.

What Proofgrade Materials are included?

It’s not immediately clear if Glowforge varies the contents of the Proofgrade Materials Sample Pack or not. When we ordered our second machine, a Glowforge Pro, received at the end of December 2019, our Proofgrade Sample Pack included the following:

  • (1) Medium 3/64″ thick Natural Leather 5″ x 10″
  • (1) Medium 1/8″ thick Finished Walnut Hardwood 6″ x 12″
  • (1) Medium 1/8″ thick Finished Maple Plywood 12″ x 20″
  • (3) Thick 1/4″ Clear Acrylic 12″ x 20″
  • (6) Medium 1/8″ thick Unfinished Draftboard 12″ x 20″
